We are trying to initiate a ReportCaster Schedule's Task from a external source and was wondering if anyone else has had any success doing this? Ultimately we would like a Microsoft SQL Server Agent to be a to execute the Task via its scheduler. I have found the Java API's that would allow for this process but was wondering if there were other methods to accomplish this?

If your company is licensed for the WebFOCUS Web Services Enablement option you can use the ReportCaster Web Services call to instantiate the schedule.

Thank you for using Focal Point!

Report Caster schedules are in the Repository. The Repository is a relational database. What one can do it update the Next Run Date/Time in the BOTSIT table. The trick is getting the date/time in Zulu format.
I have done this with a fex but I see no reason you can't create the same thing in MSSQL.
We used DSTRUN extensively, however, DSTRUN will not work in WebFOCUS 8 unless you are running the most basic of security. While we were testing and migrating, it was running just fine. Then, after testing and we flipped the switch to our single sign-on with Kerberos, it would not work. That is when IBI told me about the conflict between DSTRUN and the new security model in WebFOCUS 8. They also told me they had no intentions of making DSTRUN compatible with WebFOCUS 8 Security. It also won't work with an alternate security zone, which is a bug that is supposed to be fixed in 8.2.
Since they basically took this feature away, I think they should offer a limited license to use this feature of Web Services without having to pay for it or make a new DSTRUN that makes the Web Services call, JMHO.

We are running single sign on using LDAP so the DSTRUN will probably not work for us. I will look into updating the run time in the SQL db or the Java API's unless someone comes up with something else.
