I am just curious about this. Can I use WebFocus to update or insert data to Oracle or SAP? Thanks. This message has been edited. Last edited by: <Kathryn Henning>,
Hi, I'll answer with a question first: by Oracle, do you mean the Oracle database directly, or the Oracle ERP.
For the Oracle database, MODIFY within WebFOCUS will work just fine.
However, for SAP and the Oracle ERP, this would be dangerous, since there are business rules etc. that need to be executed "via" the ERP.
The answer to your question is still "Yes", but you would need to do it differently.
iWay (from Information Builders) would have the necessary transactional adapters that you would require to do this. And you could tie it all together.
For SAP, where we didn't have iWay installed, we also were able to do this. What we did is we used WebFOCUS to create a file in a very specific format, and then we used SAP LSMWs to read the file and do the updates.
At Summit 2012 I attended a presentation by a gentleman from Siemens who was also updating SAP data from WebFOCUS, but not using iWay.
There are probably various ways - but hopefully that gives you some things to have a look at.
