If I have a ReportCaster job setup to take an Excel template that is an invoice with a data worksheet and then kick it off to the customer. Is there a way to then have a WebFocus report in a text file of some sort to then state the status of the client's email whether it sent successfully or not. We may send over 200 invoices and maybe 5 or 6 might come back with email errors. I would like to be able to report on this and then put it in a web app that displays the stats of the invoices.
It may be setup like this:
CLIENTEMAIL,STATUS,REASON joe@joe.com,Success joe1@joe2.com,FAIL(domain does not exist)

That's correct. Once it's sent to the mail server (as defined in the RC configuration) ReportCaster is done with it. Nothing ever goes back to RC to say whether or not there was an error, unless the mail server istelf cannot be reached by RC. Only the mail server would know if it was returned. If the sendfrom address is set up as a separate email account on your server to which problem invoices would be returned on the bounce-back, you could track them this way. Anything that is returned goes into this email account. Reporting would be a different story- probably some manual process.

Darin

So then to ever do this in the future, ReportCaster would either have to have an enhancement module to communicate with the mail server to follow the process or for IBI to create its own mail server that would integrate with Report Caster.
Thank you very much!!!

Well I was curious to see if that was still true in 7.6 and it is. But I thought there was a way to go to your actual E-mail system now...maybe someone knows.

This is more of an iWay solution. If you have iSM, you could set it up as an email listener. When an email fails, iSM could then parse the response and notify you - or an application - of the delivery failure.
