I am trying to create a PowerPoint compound report. There are 3 reports and a chart. Independently all of these reports run fine with a PPTX format. They even run as a compound report with and EXL2K format ('ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K OPEN' and ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K CLOSE'. What I need is a compound powerpoint report. I read that the PPTX is not supported with compound, so I'm testing the PPT and have run into problems. I found test code from an old post but cannot get it to work. If anyone is familiar with this I welcome your comments.
Here is the code I found: APP HOLD SESSION APP FI PPTCOMP1 DISK PPTCOMP1.MHT APP FI PPTCOMP2 DISK PPTCOMP2.MHT APP FI PPTCOMP3 DISK PPTCOMP3.MHT -* for as many reports as you have -* TABLE FILE CAR PRINT RCOST BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY MODEL WHERE COUNTRY EQ 'FRANCE'; ON TABLE HOLD AS PPTCOMP1 FORMAT PPT TEMPLATE 'PPT_Test' SLIDENUMBER 3 END TABLE FILE CAR PRINT RCOST BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY MODEL WHERE COUNTRY EQ 'ITALY'; ON TABLE HOLD AS PPTCOMP2 FORMAT PPT TEMPLATE 'PPTCOMP1' SLIDENUMBER 5 END TABLE FILE CAR PRINT RCOST BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY MODEL WHERE COUNTRY EQ 'ENGLAND'; ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PPT TEMPLATE 'PPTCOMP2' SLIDENUMBER 7 END -EXIT
Instead of using APP FI, I used APP HOLDMETA MYDIR APP HOLDDATA MYDIR I got rid of the 'APP HOLD SESSION'
To check the file path I held PPTCOMP1 as 'ALPHA' format and verified the ftm was in the MYDIR folder.
To address my first issue; I created what I thought was a powerpoint template by going into powerpoint adding 2 slides with a few words in text box, saved the file as ppt_test.pptx then went into explorer and changed extension to .MHT (ppt_test.mht). The manual says to save the report as a 'Web Archive' (.MHT Extension) but I don't have that option in PowerPoint 2013.
Once I changed the extention I ran the first table file: TABLE FILE CAR PRINT RCOST BY COUNTRY BY CAR BY MODEL WHERE COUNTRY EQ 'FRANCE'; ON TABLE HOLD AS PPTCOMP1 FORMAT PPT TEMPLATE 'ppt_test.mht' SLIDENUMBER 1 END
I got the following errors: (FOC3289) TEMPLATE FILE: Error opening file (FOC009) Request failed validation, not executed
I've been reading alot of the old post but I seem to going around in circles. Please help .
Thanks in advance. This message has been edited. Last edited by: FP Mod Chuck,
One of the problems we encountered a few years ago with Excel templates (also mht) was that newer versions of Excel did not have the option to save as an mht template, so we had to keep an older version of Excel around to do just that.
