Any one running 7.6 reporting server on Z/OS 1.4?.
Hi,

We are looking to upgrade to 7.6 from 7.1.1. The downloads page offers download for Z/OS 1.6 and up
but we run z/os 1.4. I am wondering if any one has installed 7.6 on Z/OS 1.4 successfuly.

Thanks.

Hi newtofocus,

I checked about this one with our internal people and here is the response:

The most important issue is the WebSphere and Java releases you are using. These software tend to have their own system requirements, for example, WebSphere 6.0 requires z/OS 1.4 as the minimum z/OS release, whereas WebSphere 6.1 requires z/OS 1.6. As a general rule, we recommend that customers apply the latest IBM maintenance levels or recommend specific APARs for known problems with WebFOCUS.

We have certified the WebFOCUS 7.6.2 release under zOS 1.7 with WebSphere 6.0 / Java 1.4, but this should also work with zOS 1.4 if the version of WebSphere and java is supported there as well.

Hope this helps. Smiler

Cheers,

Kerry

Hi newtofocus,

I check with product division as well and here is what I heard back:

We test the WebFOCUS Reporting Server and it works fine on z/OS 1.4.

So the answer is – Yes, there are many customers successfully running the 7.6 reporting server on z/OS 1.4.

FYI, IBM stopped supporting z/OS 1.4 in March 2007. Many customers are migrating to z/OS 1.7 for their next release.

z/OS 1.4 – end of service 3/07
z/OS 1.5 – end of service 3/07
z/OS 1.6 –end of service 9/07 (now!)

The following is predicted to be supported as follows:

z/OS 1.7 - end of service 9/08
z/OS 1.8 - end of service 9/09
z/OS 1.9 - end of service 9/10

Hope this helps. Big Grin

Cheers,

Kerry
