Hi All,

We have a requirement to pass the distinct values in a column in an amber variable to an external application as a URL.

When i process the query in DB the records are coming as more than 65000 rows.

Currently using WebFOCUS 8 version. Can anyone suggest if there is any particular limit to the number of repeat loops allowed Using -REPEAT loop count and also Is there any string length limitation that a variable can hold.

Also please suggest any alternative method if any to read huge distinct values in a column as a comma seperated string to a variable

You have to deal with the limits of URL length before worrying about WebFOCUS -REPEAT limits. The URL length limit is 2083 or 2000, depending on where you read about this. Even if you were to use POST in a form (not possible from a WebFOCUS drill-down hyperlink), 65,000 values is probably way too much and very impractical to work with.

Instead, in the URL, send the criteria you used to determine that there are 65,000 rows...

You could try this.
If both WebFOCUS and external application has access to one common server, then place the 65,000+ values in a text file and pass the file name(which you can construct at run time) to the external application.

Make sure you generate unique file name each time and right privileges to external application to delete this file at the end of the request.

Hi Francis,

Yes we are passing the URL using POST method were the variables are hidden. But while using a repeat loop, the page hangs when loop count is more than 945. Hence i asked for variable length /Loop limitation if any. Still looking for an answer for the limitaton part.

Ram, we will probably try to pass the filtering criteria itslef to external application,since that seems to be a more feasible solution if it works.
