I'm wondering if any DBA's out there have ever noticed webfocus making odd connections to the MASTER database of an MSSQL server(2012 in my case)?
Last night I looks like webfocus held a connection to the MASTER database for an extended time. This struck me as strange since no metadata has ever been generated for the master db so it would be very unlikely for someone to be reporting off this database. Are there any other webfocus processes that would use the MASTER database?

I can't help you with this, but I did want to mention that you don't need WebFOCUS metadata to access a database table - SQL 'passthru' lets you retrieve or update data, as long as a database connection is defined.

Thanks!
Yes that is certainly a possibility although it seems unlikely to me.
I was thinking more along the lines of something that webfocus does in the background. Similar to how if you test an adapter connection, it will query the sysobjects table in master. However in this case, the connection was open for several hours.

Is the WebFOCUS Managed Reporting Repository stored on this database? If so, perhaps the Report Caster polling interval for the Distribution Server is causing a bottleneck...
I don't have anything concrete to help you with, these are just wild guesses of what could be going on...

The strange thing is that the MASTER db in question is on the server with our main database used for reporting. Our webfocus repository is actually on a completely different server. So if it was some kind of WF background process, you would think it'd use the master db where the repository is located...
Thanks again!
