using the MORE option might be just what you need. it allows you to read a bunch of hold files or text files or whatever into a merged entity. The way JOIN merges horizontally, MORE merges vertically.
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT CAR COUNTRY
ON TABLE HOLD AS MYOUTPUT
MORE
FILE OTHERCAR
MORE
FILE KIDSCARS
END.
now the file MYOUTPUT will have all 3 bits together.
The field names referenced in the first part of that paragraph will be the same fieldnames referenced when reading the subsequent files.
The 3 files don't have to be identical, but must contain the same referenced fields in the same format. IF statements, if any, would need to be applied to each file individually.
2.you can also read a flat file and then add and/or reorganize records to it, using
-READ
and
-WRITE syntax.
( i use this to create javascript arrays for inclusion in my .asp launch pages)
3. then there's FILEDEF...APPEND syntax
A zillion ways to do stuff with this way cool language.
