Finally we are ready to do an upgrade. I'm researching which release would be best to use. We did some limited testing on 7.6.5 a while back but would like to go for a later version. Anyone have any "high praises" or "don't even think about it" advise on the latest and greatest?
Oh and we read a lot of SAP BW queries for data...so any issues with that would be appreciated.

Prairie,
Long time no see!
There was a post this morning about 7.7.01 and problems with Excel 2007.
After several years of pushing, it looks like we too are going to upgrade. Our IBI consultant has advised that we "upgrade to the 7.6.11 release, which is very stable is widely adopted by many",
Anyone have any comments good or bad about 7.6.11?
We have had excellent results with the 7.6.11 version. No SAP access, however. Just DB2, ADABAS, SQL Server.

Darin

Hey Glenda!
You will be going to quite a new world from 5.3.6 wow.
Thanks for the replies.

Since we write most of our code in the native language by choice. It shouldn't be too much of a culture shock.

I'm getting extremely jealous as we still are in 5.3.4 and it seems like it'll stay as such for quite a while.
7.6.11 for you. It's the max in the 7.6.x family and I believe you'll have to reinstall and migrate if going to 7.7.x (no upgrade path).
I could be wrong -- that may only be the case when moving up major release levels (i.e. to 8.x in this case).

I just did the 7.6.8 --> 7.6.11 upgrade and it went off without a hitch (well, as soon as I turned off our ReportCaster console listener RC began to run in full-function mode, but that's another headache ago).
@Glenda, You, on the other hand, should consider the 7.7.x path, since you'll certainly have to reinstall and migrate. Our rep told me a few weeks ago that 7.7.02 was to be released soon (August/Sept).
I'd shoot for 7.7.02 if I were considering an upgrade from 5.x.
Too new for my taste. I want to be on the cutting edge not the bleeding edge. Let someone else work out the kinks.

Besides, I'm not as well rounded as most of you. I only know how to write WebFOCUS code and formating. Installation and such is left up to systems programmers.

Hi,
I dont know if this is a bit offtrack-we recently moved to 7.6.11 from 7.1.4 and I noticed a small issue in 7.6.11 - in excel format if we have SET EMPTYCELLS OFF to get the NODATA thing working..the 0's which are acting as place holders for blanks are colored red when I apply styling on the columns to turn them red when data LT 0.
This does not happen in 7.1.4
thanks Sashanka

Neftali, I hope you have a cobweb broom to keep that 5.3.4 shiny...

I prefer the old HTML Painter(7.6.4). Although 7.6.11 tries to provide more enhancements, but it's so much hard to maintain, ie. ddbox populated by embeded procedure, and it allows you to change the codes, but next time you maintain it again, it resets to the original codes. There might be a way to do it right, but it is not intuitive.

Gosh, that just supports my desire to write the code myself instead of relying on "painters".

I liked that!
IBI introduced support for EXL2K borders in 7.6.9 which is a feature wanted by many for a long time and that works fine (*unless* you use EXL2K FORMULA ) so if I was to choose (but I won't hold my breath as an upgrade here seems sooooooooo far in the future) I'd probably go with at least that one release due to the enhancement.
