Hi Ginny - I should have been more specific, I meant operating system command. I am looking for the syntax to encrypt a file on AIX outside for WebFOCUS.
Thanks!

I do not know of any native AIX command that does encryption for you. There may be some third party package that you could buy to do the encryption. On the other hand, you do already have (Web)Focus. That package can do the encryption for you ...

Unfortunately we are using 7.1.6 and WebFOCUS encryption does not work on AHTML files. We have decided to wait until we upgrade to 7.6x to do what we want. Thanks for your help.

Hi Ginny That's OK if it is encrypted outside of WebFOCUS. We were looking to implement a workaround to encrypting reports and using ReportCaster to distribute the reports. We have decided to wait until we upgrade to 7.6x where this issue has been addressed. Thanks!

If you distributing by email then you might be able to apply S/MIME (wikipedia link) or another public key encryption application (PGP, OpenPGP, GnuPG) to ensure that if the wrong people get it they can't read it. This will take some setting up with your users and mail admin however.
Cheers

uuencode and uudecode? are those just dos based encryptions? try googling 'aix command to encrypt a file' there were some OTFE commands listed. also you may want to look into: "ccrypt" it is a util for encrypting/decrypting files 'n streams. It was intended as a replacement for the standard unix crypt utility.
