Hi,
How to get the number of updates/inserts from a DB2 SQL passthru?

After the update completes(in this case just one row is updated), I get this message

(FOC1364) ROWS AFFECTED BY PASSTHRU COMMAND : 1/UPDATE

I am unable to capture the number or rows updated.

Thanks.

I have tried using &FOCERRNUM, &RETCODE and &LINES. For sql selects, these are helpful. But these variables always return 0 for sql updates whether an update has been performed or not. So, if a row has been updated, I am unable to capture that '1' row has been updated.

And, if a row has not been updated, i am unable to trap that either. In both cases all the above variables return only 0.

Try this documentation:

iWay Adapter Administration for UNIX, Windows, OpenVMS, OS/400, OS/390, and z/OS V7.1.3 > Using the Adapter for DB2 > Customizing the DB2 Environment Obtaining the Number of Rows Updated or Deleted

(I think I had a bit of trouble getting this to work in v5.3.2, but you should give it a try).

Although PASSRECS seems the logical solution, did you check out the post ?

Hi Francis,
If you are referring to PASSRECS then
In my data Adapter setttings, PASSRECS is already set to ON.
I tired this too but it didn't work.

ENGINE DB2 SET DEFAULT_CONNECTION DDF_D39A
ENGINE DB2 SET PASSECS ON
SQL DB2

Waz,
I saw that post. It wasn't helpful. maybe i missed something. I'll check it out again.

Thanks.

The key lines in the post was

-*new file
SET EMGSRV = FILE
-RUN

{SQL Command}
-RUN
SET EMGSRV=ON
-RUN

! type emgfile.ftm
-EXIT

The output from the command should be in the file. This can then be processed, perhaps by DM to get the transaction count.
