use the &LINES variable TABLE FILE CAR SUM SALES BY CAR IF COUNTRY IS ... END -RUN -SET &HOWMANY = &LINES ; the variable &LINES tells you how many records are in the extract. (see mickey's post below..excellent point)This message has been edited. Last edited by: susannah,

For your first question use the find function above and enter RECORDS.
For the second one, again, use the find function above and enter UNION.
To save going over and over these questions it is always prudent to try and use the find function first. There is plenty of information out there in the Forum already, you just have to find it
Would it beneficial for you to go on a course? Contact your local support people for info - no I'm not an IB employee, I just think that you would benefit greatly by attending a training course.

There are actually TWO &variables that give you different numbers depending on the verb (SUM or PRINT) that is used.
Try the following:
TABLE FILE CAR SUM RCOST DCOST BY COUNTRY END -RUN -TYPE RECORDS = &RECORDS AND LINES = &LINES
&RECORDS = 18 because there were 18 records pulled from the CAR database for this request. However, &LINES = 5 because there are five lines of data shown on the report. This is due to the usage of the SUM verb.
Choose whichever one meets your need.
Thanks!
