From Mainframe i directly ftped the flatfiles to my Reporting sever(unix server) Applciation folder. When i use the developer studio to create the reports , it should be listed . But i am unable to get the mas files
What may cause the issue.

If you ftp the flatfiles, you should indeed also ftp the master files that describe these flat files. If you already did that, then DevStudio should see all the files, provided the security settings allow DS to see them. And, be advised that the master files will not be automatically added to the application, that is something you can only do manually. They should be visible when you select the 'Display All Files In Application Path' option (the looking glass icon).

If your flat file was not created with FOCUS on the mainframe then you will indeed have to write a master for it. You can use the Describing Data manual to do it by hand or use the Synonym Editor tool in DS if you have the authority to do so. I would add a DATASET parameter if I were you.
Once the master is created, make sure that the directory it is in is in the app path in edasprof.prf or you specify an APP PREPENDPATH dirname in your program.
