I am trying to create a column title that will include one of the values in the virtual field.

There is season name and season year in my table. I modify season year. Here is my virtual field:
 SEASONY/I6=DECODE SEASONYR(2 2002 3 2003 4 2004 5 2005 6 2006 7 2007 8 2008 ELSE 1999);

When I sort across by season name I want to customize column title concatenating season year selected.
 ACROSS SEASONNM AS 'For Season Year &SEASONYR'

Then I get column title look like 'For Season Year 2'. And what I want is 'Season Year 2002' instead.

How do I accomplish that?
Thanks,
Evgenia

Can you -WRITE your DECODE list to a small file and DECODE from it like you do in the DEFINE? (If it is small and manageable that is - like what you have listed.) I tried this:

DEFINE FILE XX
SEASONY/I4=2002;
END
-SET &SEASONYR='2';
-SET &YRX =DECODE &SEASONYR(2 '2002' 3 '2003' 4 '2004' ELSE '1999');
TABLE FILE XX
HEADING
" SEASONYR = &SEASONYR - YRX = &YRX "
" "
PRINT E01 AS 'FIELD1' SEASONY E02 AS 'TEST &YRX'
END
-RUN
-EXIT

My output:

PAGE 1
SEASONYR = 2 - YRX = 2002

FIELD1 SEASONY TEST 2002
2006/01/27 2002 MO
2006/01/27 2002 MO
2006/01/27 2002 MO
2006/01/27 2002 MO
2006/01/27 2002 MTD

Jim,
Thanks for giving me an idea. I used a temporary variable &TEMP to decode and then included it in my title.

Thanks,
Evgenia
