In WebFOCUS, I used the Upload Data File option to bring in an Excel file that has 3 columns. Every row in the first column is unique and is equal to a value in an existing data file. The second column has the same value on each row, and the third column contains various amounts. When I tried to select the uploaded file for a JOIN to an existing data file, I received the following error: "Selected FOCUS master file does not have indexed fields. Please select another master file." Does anyone know of a way to assign an index to an uploaded file, or to otherwise correct this error? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,

If you use this uploaded file as the from file, then it does not need indexes. Only the join-to file needs indexes, if it is a focus file. From your description the join-to is not the uploaded one but an existing data file. That's the one that needs indexes. You can do this in a number of ways: - use the rebuild utility - use the method of table, recreate the file with indexes in the master, and modify to load it again - maybe convert it to sql - then you do not need indexes anymore - table file, hold format focus with indexes, rename.
Hope this helps ...

If neither file is a FOCUS file, then they must be sorted in the same order by the same BY fields. If you TABLE and HOLD them first to sort, then you should be able to do the join.
