I have a problem when importing an excel output file into Access database.
The report output format I have chosen is Excel format.I run the report and it opens up the window asking to 'save' or 'open', then I chose to save the file.
Here is scenario.
1. I opened the saved file, it opens up in excel and looks fine. But, when I try to import to Access database, Access program is giving me the following error.
"The wizard is unable to access information in the file 'C:\test.xls'. Please check the file exists and is in the correct format".
2. When I open the file in excel and then choose 'Save as' option from there, it opens up the 'Save as window', 'Save as type' option in that window defaults to "web Page(*.htm;*.html)( I think this is where the problem is, it should show as "Microsoft Excel Workbook(*.xls)) I changed it to "Microsoft Excel Workbook(*.xls) and save it. Now if I try to import into Access, it works fine.
Here is the code I have for output format
ON TABLE SET ONLINE-FMT EXL2K ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF ON TABLE SET STYLE * END
I had the same problem at my company. But in the self-service application, we're using html-buttons in the menu.
I've written javascript code that when the file extension is an excel file, it opens a new window with text that the user should first press the full-screen button (also a html-button in our menu). This fullscreen button also contains javascript code that opens the excel file in a new window (instead of in the frame where the report-output is supposed to go). From there the user can choose "File, Save As" from the menu and it will default to .xls (instead of .htm).
But, there's a much easier solution already on this forum: Solution by Spence. I wish I had read that post when I was confronted with this problem. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,

In my case, I am scheduleing that procedure to run and it saves as excel file. We have an automated program which runs and picks up the file and imports it into Access database.
If it is a manual process, We can do 'Save as' once we open the output file and then import it.
Is that a problem which IBI has or do we have solution for that.
