If a report focexec already exists, let's say it was created with the Report Painter, and now someone using InfoAssist wants to use that report in whatever they are creating, how do they do they do that?
It is not possible to use Report Painter created content in InfoAssist.
In a future release we will make 2 changes.
1. You will be able to use Report Painter created procedures as components in InfoAssist's Document mode. You will not be able to edit them in InfoAssist.
2. If a report is initially created in InfoAssist and then edited in Report Painter, as long as it still adheres to all of the features of InfoAssist, then InfoAssist will be able to edit it still. Currently, once you open and save in Report Painter, InfoAssist can no longer edit the report.
Note: In WebFOCUS 8, the same as number 2 will hold true for our browser based text editor. You can edit something there and on save we will run in through the IA parser to see if IA can still edit it.
Am I correct in understanding that IBI is not going to be doing more development on Power Painter, and will be putting their development into InfoAssist instead?
If development has been done in Power Painter, can it be maintained in the current and upcoming release of InfoAssist?
And since you can't take a report created with Report Painter and bring it into Power Painter, can you bring it into InfoAssist? This message has been edited. Last edited by: JBK,
You are correct Power Painter is not in WebFOCUS 8. Anything created in Power Painter can be edited in InfoAssist. In the first release of WebFOCUS 8, InfoAssist's document mode lacks the ability to handle lines. So if you have lines they will be removed. Power Painter's handling of lines was very rudimentary and when we add it to InfoAssist in 2012 it will be implemented properly.
As to bring Report Painter created content, the answer is currently no.
We have done a few things in WebFOCUS 8.
1. Report created originally in InfoAssist and then edited in Report Painter, will be editable in InfoAssist again if the changes you made are InfoAssist compliant. Basically on save we will test the procedure to see if InfoAssist can still handle it.
2. We have done the same for our browser based text editor.
3. In a future release we will allow you to use Report Painter created Reports in Document Mode of InfoAssist as a referenced procedure.
WebFOCUS 8 will be released at the end of this year. You will need to contact our ATS group in order to download it and they will work with you to make sure you are successful.
