I get an error similar to this when opening or saving an Excel or PDF report on a server accessed via https:

HTML reports return normally. Everything works normally when I don't use https.

Thanks,

Try this

Internet Explorer cannot download File.doc from ServerName

quote:

Symptom:

"Internet Explorer cannot download File.doc from ServerName. Internet Explorer
was not able to open this Internet Site. The requested site is either
unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Problem:

Receive the above error message when trying to display a PDF or EXCEL file in
their IE browser after enabling Secured Socket Layer (SSL)

Solution:

To correct this issue, perform the following from the IE browser:

1. Click on Tools, then Internet Options and followed by the Advanced button
2. Check the box under the Security section that reads:
"Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

This solution can be found at microsoft's web site under the Q number -Q302109
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q302109

JG,

Thank you very much - that worked.

Another link for the IBI document is Internet Explorer cannot download File.doc from ServerName

It references a Microsoft URL that no longer exists, but these two relate to the same issue:

"Internet Explorer Cannot Download" Error Message When You Use an HTTPS URL to Open an Office Document or PDF File

Cannot Open Files on Secure Servers

The strange thing is that these two articles state that turning the check-box OFF will resolve the problem, while IBI's article states turning the check-box ON solves the problem.

Unfortunately, we will have to get all our users to turn the check-box on, unless something can be done on the server.

Cheers,

Francis

Typical the link to microsoft is wrong, as far as I can see the following is correct

"Internet Explorer Cannot Download" Error Message When You Use an HTTPS URL to Open an Office Document or PDF File

You beat me to the post button by 30 seconds Francis

If you have a central update mechanism how about the mentioned hotfix?

I don't think the Microsoft hot-fix will be applied - this org is too large and the number of people affected too small...

Maybe something can be done on the server, based on the comments on the MS page:

- The server sends the "Cache-Control: No Store" header
- The server sends the "Cache-Control: No Cache" header

Perhaps this could be modified...

Thanks for your help.

Excel and PDF output requires “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” checked

View Source for https requires “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” unchecked
