I've created a report with a computed field in it that has the following expression...
PROD_QTY * AVE.INSTALLATION_PERCENTAGE / 100
This works just fine.
When I try to add a COMPUTE to a synonym using the same expression it doesn't work. The check expression button says it is valid but when I look at the synonym in Tree View the expression shows up in red. If I try to run a report using this I get the error that the fieldname is not recognized. I assume this is because the expression really isn't valid.
What do I need to change to get this expression to work from a synonym rather than a report?
Thanks!

Actually, you just can't add a COMPUTE to your master file. You can add a DEFINE to your master, but that is not the same as a compute. In a define for instance, it is quite useless to say AVE., since all computations for a define are done at the record level, not at the aggregate level. In this case, I would stick with the COMPUTE in your request, don't try to put it in your master.

I added a compute with a prefix operation in it in the master as a compute and I am getting the same results as yourself. The column is flagged in red, but I can still use the column and the results are correct. Maybe it is an oversight with the GUI in that it does not expect to see a prefix operator.
GamP - Yes, you can add a compute to a master. It's been there for a few releases ... undocumented naturally.
Master sample:
COMPUTE SOMEVALUE1/D20.2=AVE.MEASURE3;,
TITLE='Some Value 1', $
Fex sample:
COMPUTE SOMEVALUE1;
