With Oracle express, it attaches itself to the domain name of your machine when you did the original install. When you boot up in wireless, your machine domain name probably will be different, and the Oracle client will not be able to find the domain that it is configured to point to. I spent about an hour one day trying to abstract the Oracle install from the machine domain, but I decided to give up since it really wasn't that important to me.

J. That's the first thing I thought, but it didn't work. There seems to be something a little deeper. The only thing I didn't try was adding the entire machine name - with domain - to the services file with a 127.0.0.1 ip designation. In hind sight, that might have done it.
