In our two tier AIX environment, when I want to save a HOLD file and Master for future use, I run the following commands:

UNIX mkdir -p /home/user-id/webfocus_data
-RUN

APP MAP webfocus_data /home/user-id/webfocus_data
-RUN

APP HOLDMETA webfocus_data
APP HOLDDATA webfocus_data
-RUN

This will save all HOLD files and Masters to a sub-directory in the user's home directory.

In the new three tier AIX environment, I get the following error when creating the webfocus_data sub-directory:

mkdir: 0653-358 Cannot create /home/sdqw02.
/home/sdqw02: The file access permissions do not allow the specified action.

This is most likely because the User ID is not defined on the middle tier where the WebFOCUS server operates - only on the third tier where DB2 runs.

Do we have to get the User ID's defined on both the second and third tier servers?

Thanks,

It sounds like you are either running the reporting server with security off or with a default AIX userid specified in the client config.

You can find out by running a quick fex that does a GETUSER.

I don't recommend the administrative hassle of having to set up ids for your users on yet another box as that would require them to have to log onto your application and then deal with password changes.

What you could do, however, is have your UNIX admin set up a special place where these files could be stored and then make sure that the default id has the appropriate permissions to create directories and write files to this area. Most regular users are never given the authority to write to /home/userid.

I think this would be the easiest way to go. We have a /data directory structure where this is done.

Let me know if you have any other questions on this.

Ginny, thanks for your ideas. I'll discuss it with the UNIX administrators.

Thanks,

Francis.

Hi all,

FYI, Francis has a case opened for this issue and here is the response in the case (50852557):

Since the user ID and associated permissions are not defined where WebFOCUS is running, you're receiving the error. The IDs will need to be set up for WebFOCUS.

Cheers,

Kerry
