Hi,

Just want to find out whether there is any limitation on the number of lines for a WebFOCUS program?

We have a program which is continue to grow as more code are required to add to it from time to time.

We are currently using WebFOCUS version 5.2 (in the progress of upgrading to version 7.6.8). Our operating system is UNIX.

Thanks
Sophie

Sophie,
Don't know how many lines of code you currently have, you did not mention.
But I haven't come across any limitation in size of a webfocus program. I have seen programs of over 20K lines run without any problem.
Question of course is how manageable such a large program would be.
I would try to divide it up into logical smaller parts and then use -include to cement it all together.

I have several large batch programs (over 8K lines). The only problem I have is bringing them up in the text editor inside DevStudio. They eventually come up, but it takes forever. I use an external editor when these need to be viewed or changed. The problem is that when they are retrieved, DevStudio tries to build the other views of the code (Physical and Logical) and it take a while.

Pity the lost knowledge of an old programmer!

Thanks all for the reply.

I don't think our program is larger than 20K lines but will take the advice of dividing it up further into smaller parts.

A few years ago (1994), when using release something on OS390, I occasionally hit a problem where the program appeared to loop. If I added a comment line or removed a comment line (one with just "-*") it worked perfectly OK. Never got to the bottom of that one but it sure caused a lot of head scratching at the time.
