Has anyone had any issues with web queries in excel with Vista? We are using 7.1.7. with Vista. I'm getting an error when the excel sheet opens and the web query tries to run: security alert - data connections have been blocked. I enabled content and from within trust settings, I enabled all data connections. File tried to update then error appeared: the file could not be accessed. Invalid web query. I checked the number of characters in the file name - it is under 220. Any suggesstions? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,
Which direction are you building it in, Selena? ARe you building the wq from scratch? or are you taking an existing html table report and 'Exporting to Excel' to let excel build the webquery for you?

We are using an excel template. When the template is opened by the user, the query gets called via the vba code behind the excel sheet. Normally (by normally I mean in XP, not Vista) the query will run and import the data to the specified sheet in the excel template. I can get it to work if I right click in the cell that contains the web query and select "refresh". Doing it this way imports the data fine but we need it to run upon opening of the spreadsheet.
Pls try this . Open the teamplate under your machine , chose the query ( click on the header of the report, you must do this for every report) , click right , chose External Data Range Properties , check Refresh data on open file and Preserve cell formating , upload the template under the server and retest it.
Note: another solution is to run a macro how will refresh all the queries.

We were actually able to resolve the issue by changing settings from within excel. We enabled all macro settings and enabled both options under external content. Thanks for all of your input.
