HI, WHEN I DOWNLOAD A MONTH AGO THE BETA VERSION OF THE NEW INTERNET EXPLORER 7 AND WHEN I OPEN UP MY DASHBOARD. IT POPPED UP AN ERROR THAT IT SAYS IT DOES NOT SUPPORT INTERNET EXPLORER 7...I KNOW THE FINAL VERSION OF INTERNET EXPLORER HAS BEEN RELEASED AND WASNT SURE IF THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED OR IF THERE IS ANY SPECIAL CODE THAT I NEED TO KNOW TO AVOID ANY TYPE OF ERROR. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

Here's a support email they sent out earlier this week:

This advisory is applicable to the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence Dashboard.

Microsoft has announced the official release of Internet Explorer 7 is now available. As noted on Microsoft's TechNet website in the article entitled, 'Internet Explorer 7 will be delivered through Automatic Updates' at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/updatemanagement/windo...e7announcement.mspx, Microsoft will also be distributing Internet Explorer 7 as a high-priority update via Automatic Updates and the Windows Update and Microsoft Update sites.

Customers using the Business Intelligence Dashboard who choose to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7.0 will need to download the appropriate Hotfix for the following WebFOCUS Release/Service Pack Levels:

- 7.1 Service Pack 4
- 7.1 Service Pack 3
- 7.1 Service Pack 1

- 5.3 Service Packs 3 to 6
- 5.2 Service Packs 3 to 8

The above Hotfixes can be downloaded from http://techsupport.informationbuilders.com/tech/wbf/wbf_dia_ie70.html

Information Builders will certify WebFOCUS 7.1 Service Pack 6 as well as WebFOCUS 7.6 with Internet Explorer 7.0.

From the tiny bit that I know of Internet Explorer, many corporate applications will have problems, so most client will not be jumping into IE7 right away.

I would like WebFOCUS (particularly MRE and Dashboard) to be compatible with Firefox, which, as far as I recall, is not.

Please read the instructins.

Backup the following files:

\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\worp_tree.js
\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\menu\worp_menu.js
\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\util\worp_runtime.js

For example, rename all of them with a .orig extension

2) Place 714IE7.jar file in the directory of:

\ibi\WebFOCUS71

3) Make sure the jar command is in your path (or explicitly reference the command)
unjar the 714IE7.jar file

Chris,

The instructions are listed in the text file sent along with the jar file.

A JDK MUST be in the PATH, the jar command will not work with just JRE

Backup the following files:

\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\worp_tree.js
\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\menu\worp_menu.js
\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\worp\js\util\worp_runtime.js

For example, rename all of them with a .orig extension

2) Place 714IE7.jar file in the directory of:

\ibi\WebFOCUS71

3) Make sure the jar command is in your path (or explicitly reference the command)
unjar the 714IE7.jar file

jar -xvf 714IE7.jar

Hi Chris,
Is there an error of some kind?
The jar command requires a Java SDK (Developers Kit) in the CLASSPATH.
To check the CLASSPATH, enter PATH at the command line. Verify you have something like C:\j2sdk1.4.2_10\bin
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Rich

Bryan,

I went into the c: drive in the directory of ibi\webfocus71

and I typed the command "jar -xvf 714IE7.jar" and it popped up this error...

"'jar' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

Do you know what the error means? Let me know..

Appreciate it.

chris, here's the response i got from ibi when i had exactly the same problem
"The error is caused by the jar file not being in the System Environmental
variable PATH.

I had to change mine from

PATH=C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_12\jre
\bin\client;C:\Program Files\IBM\Personal Communications\;C:\Program
Files\IBM\TraceFacility\

to

PATH=C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_12\jre\
bin\client;C:\Program Files\IBM\Personal Communications\;C:\Program
Files\IBM\TraceFacility\;c:\j2sdk1.4.2_12\bin

The jar command did then work from my temp dir within the command box"
The case number is 22082094, in case you open a case you can get your case worker to refer tothat number.

Check your PATH. On Windows, go to START - RUN and type CMD. At the DOS prompt type PATH

Hi Chris,

The PATH info is whats set for the machine. Right click on "My Computer", select Properties -> Advanced -> Environment variables.
In order to run some Java commands you need the
Sun Java System Developers Kit (SDK). What you need in the PATH is the path to the software like n:\j2sdk1.4.2_10. If you don't have it installed, then go to sun's site and download and install it.

I manually typed the java directory in the path of the evironmental variables...and typed path in the command and the result is this...

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]
(C) Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.INDYFRUIT>path
PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Mi
crosoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_10\bin

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.INDYFRUIT>

Since the path is installed correctly...what do I do from there?

Hi Chris,

With the JDK now in the path you may have to reboot the pc, but then the jar command should work just fine for you.

Hi Chris,

At this point, after adding the JDK to the PATH and it's still not working for you, I would open a call with IBI and let them have a look.
Get some screen prints of the PATH command, java -fullversion, and a screen print of the jar command
