The Message is pretty stright forward. If you are on windows do to a DOS windows and enter the SQLPLUS command if it does not come up then the Oracle Client has not been installed or the libraries are not in the PATH. Pretty much the same thing for UNIX.
Hi, I can configure adapter for Oracle via Iway and other front end tools like Toad and Erwin without having Oracle client installed on the local workstations? I am not able to configure using webfocus.
Where are you trying to configure the Oracle adapter? On your desktop (with Developer Studio Reporting Server) or on a remote server where the full WebFOCUS product has been installed?
The Oracle client needs to be installed on the machine where the WF Oracle adapter is being configured.
Per the Reporting Server Adapter Admin documentation, the ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and LD_LIBRARY_PATH environmental variables need to be set before the WF Reporting Server is started. Double check that these variables are set and pointing to the correct Oracle directories. You can see these values on the reporting server console in on the properties/settings page for the Oracle adapter.
Also, all of the files in the ORACLE_HOME/lib32 must have read permissions set for all users. It is possible that only a handful of files may be missing the read permissions and this error message will be generated.
The doc reference URL is below for 713. I'm not sure which version you are using, but I believe this is be applicable for 5x and 7x.
