What I know is that a French boss of IBF had a contract to be informed of all the Press Articles concerning Focus. He learnt many things about photography ... He should have asked about the (forgotten) acronym Focusely yours
Focus Mainframe 7.6.11 Dev Studio 7.6.11 and !!! PC Focus, Focus for OS/2, FFW Six, MSO
from what I understand. Way back when, FOCUS was and still is a product. with the web, came WebFOCUS. FOCUS is the underlining CORE engine behind WebFOCUS. May long time customer use FOCUS to refer to the underling 4GL (4th Generation Language). this is because for the most part a program written in FOCUS can be executed by WebFOCUS. The is great because, FOCUS is FOCUS is FOCUS. Which allow you to move from platfrom to platform should the need arise.
I had that same question when I first started with FOCUS, back in the pre-WebFOCUS days… back in the 80’s. I called IBI and spoke to a few people who denied (or simply stated) that it was an acronym, more of a verb, as in to FOCUS clearly on the underlying data. Some have alluded to the thought that it was just a “five letter word”, chosen on the fact that RAMIS (Remember RAMIS?), was also a “five letter word”.

In fact, it's not an acronym. But a pure magical product. You just say "Focus Pocus" and plenty of mysterious events will occur. Very often, splendid, positive Magic results. From time to time events that could make you turn mad. In these (rare) cases ask for help from Heavy Metal members. Focusely yours
