Hi.

I'm having a little problem with my focexec. It gets information from our SQL Server based on between dates and works fine when there is data but when there isn't I get a server error returned saying that the reporting server has crashed. The focexec returns either a graph or an excel spreadsheet and uses one HOLD file.

Is there a way to trap the error or test for no results so an appropriate message can be returned. We're running an ASP.NET front end that calls the focexec.

Many Thanks

Using Developer Studio 7.6.1

The title of your topic intimates that you are getting the "EDA NO DATA" returned from your request when this occurs, but your text intimates that you are getting the "Agent has crashed" error.

Which is it?

If it is the "EDA NO DATA" then just add SET EMPTYREPORT = ON at the beginning of your fex to allow an empty report to be generated. You will get headings, footing and titles but nothing else in your report.

If it is the Agent crash then I am afraid you will have to start looking at tracing etc. to ascertain why the crash is occuring - there are hundreds of reasons why this could happen and far too extensive to go into here. If you do have this problem, and you are not that experienced with tracing within WebFOCUS then I would contact your IT department (if you are not part of it) or raise a call with IB.

Hi Tony.

Many Thanks for the info. The problem only occurs when no data is returned or one of the search criteria is not in the database (i.e Post / Zip code). I think the IT guys may have to build some checking in their ASP.NET part.

Thanks Again

I also use this code at the end of a TABLE FILE:

-IF &FOCERRNUM NE 0 GOTO DBERR;
-IF &RECORDS NE 0 GOTO ENDFEX;
-HTMLFORM NO_RECORDS
-GOTO ENDFEX
-DBERR
-HTMLFORM DBDOWN
-ENDFEX

NO_RECORDS.htm and DBDOWN.htm are canned html pages that provides some info on what to do, who to call, yada yada yada...
