Has anyone played around with getting the right-click option, Export to Microsoft Excel, on an HTML page to work on WebFOCUS report that was sent to HTML and has Security turned on? I think all that would be needed is to edit the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\E&xport to Microsoft Excel" registry key to somehow add the username and password, so it is passed along with the request to export, but I don't know too much about context menus in the Windows Registry. This is just a curiosity. I know that I can change the output format in WebFOCUS.

If it's a short running report, add a link that effectivly reruns the report using EXL2K as the format.

-DEFAULTS &FMT='HTML'
.
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT &FMT

JG,

Thanks for your reply. I do a lot of AD HOC TABLE requests to the default output, HTML, and it is only occasionally, after I see the resulting data, that I want to export it to Excel. It would be handy to use IE's Export to Microsoft Excel option. I know that I can do a PCHOLD, but why waste time extending my AD HOC code and running the report twice if I can just right-click and export what I see in front of me?

All you have to do is use file, save as and choose html as the format.

You can then either rename it as .xls or use as open with and select excel.

It should open fine and you can then save it as a real xls.

I really would not hack the registry.

I just tried on my report and Export Excel (right click) works. Can you giev more details on security turned on. I mean, once the user can run the report that implies the credentials are already checked.

Bhanu,
I think it used to work for me too, actually. Today, when I tried..more than once..to export to Excel, all that the Excel worksheet contained was the following text:

Valid credentials are required for server: EDASERVE

User ID:

Password:

'Export' does in fact reexecute the fex, so credentials are challenged again.
JG, the purpose of export is to let the end user create the webquery..{or just let the end user have something fun to do when they see that option on their rc menu }.
There is some registry edit information in the focal point article.. but not about passing uid/pw...i'll see if i can find more...
