The visual discovery tool lets you graphically drill down to a lower set of "parameters" if you will. Is there a way to link to other WF reports, so in effect once you drill down graphically you can generate a report detail that represents just the data currently visible in the Visual Discovery dashboard?

I am not an expert in VisDis but have played with it some. The data sheet does exactly what you have described. If you select something in a bar chart, for example, the data sheet will change to highlight/show the selected data (based on your show settings in the menu).

The issue is that VisDis is ActiveX and not really WF by the time you see the page.

However,I have seen a couple of articles on the IBI website on driving VisDis pages based on selections from WF reports. They require a bit of javascript. You might want to do some searching in the advanced area.
