[CASE-OPENED] Synchronizing Reports in 7.7 Composer

I've got 2 fexes that read the CAR file, and share the same sort value, and are set to AHTML output. I've been following the steps for synchronizing reports in a 7.7.02 active dashboard, which I've never tried before.
I reference Report A in a Composer layout, and reference Report B next to it.
Saving and running this HTML page works fine. I get 2 independent reports that I can manipulate with the active controls.
But, when I then select Report B in Composer, hold the Ctrl key, and select Report A, and hit the Synchronize to Active Report button, my previews both change to Report A. When I run the page, I now get 2 copies of Report A.
Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to be seeing with synchronization? What, exactly, is this feature doing for us?
