Guidelines in increasing the space of the hold files
Hi,

I would like to know the guidelines in increasing the space of the hold files. By increasing the capacity of hold files, i should not be compromising on the performance. Could someone suggest me the guidelines for the same??

Thanks
Vix

It's usually best to include some description of your issue in the thread title instead of just "Hi" - more likely to get someone who can help you with your specific problem.
There is no limitation on the size/space for hold files. The limitation may be on the amount of disk space available in the environment or any system limitations placed on specific users.
As for part 2 - there is always a compromise. If you use up all the disk space available to the system with hold files, the performance dies. If you have extremely large hold files, there is a performance issue because hold files are usually not the most efficient way to store and/or retrieve data. If the hold files are FOCUS files that are being updated, they should be rebuilt periodically for size and efficiency purposes.

Hard to give a specific answer to a very broad question.

Darin

Vikas,

Why wait until next time? If you edit your first post then as you are the originator, you have the ability to change the topic description. Try it now by clicking the middle icon in the lower right of your first post and make that change.

From your previous post, it makes me think you are doing this thru JCL. If that is the case you create a DD for each hold file. Without a JCL sample to reference I can't remember all of the syntax, but talk to your systems people about creating temporary storage.
