I'm trying to build a report that will determine the current month and then loop through all the months from January to the current month to get totals from an Oracle table. Any ideas on the best way to accomplish this?
WebFOCUS MRE Windows XP Output: Excel and sometimes PDF.
Suppose the oracle table has a field like DATESTAMP/YYMD.
-SET &NOW = &YMD;
DEFINE FILE ORACLETABLE
MONTH/YYM=DATESTAMP;
END
TABLE FILE ORACLETABLE
SUM WHATEVER
BY MONTH
WHERE DATESTAMP LT '&NOW';
WHERE DATESTAMP GT '20080101';
END
not to difficult ..

I apologize for not be clear enough. Here is what the output needs to look like:
JAN-08 {total number for Jan here} FEB-08 {total number for Feb here} MAR-08 {total number for Mar here} ... xxx-08 {total number for current month here}
Is there a WHILE loop in Web FOCUS? I suppose all I need to do is hold the current month as an integer and then loop from 1 to that number with the query to get the total number inside the loop, right? How does Web FOCUS handle looping of this nature?
WebFOCUS MRE Windows XP Output: Excel and sometimes PDF.
Why won't Frank's example work for you? The SUM verb adds up everything in a separate bucket for the BY field. Why don't you try it and see what you get.
For Dialogue Manager, there is a -REPEAT command that does looping but that isn't what you want here.
