When I try to run my report in excel it creates a name (different each time) that doesnt have the .xls extension. I am unsure where to look within my code. Other reports run ok in excel...
Post your code, it's hard to tell what you are doing wrong if we can't see what you're doing. I am assuming that you are doing an ON TABLE HOLD AS filename FORMAT EXL2K.

ON FORMAT HOLD AS holdname FORMAT EXL2K creates holdname.xht so you will not find .xls extension. If you use ON FORMAT PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K, the report opens up the file in EXCEL with WFSERVLET name. It is Read-Only so you have to do a SAVE AS... to save it. If you are not using format EXL2K, then you'll need to let us know which format you are using so we can answer the question better.
I was developing Table of Contents reports in DB2 WebQuery for System i - WebFOCUS product for the System i. Turns out that they have some issues with report generation in Excel..
