[SOLVED] regarding HOLD.....

i want to create a hold file and use it in the other session,other session refers to the session which is outside the session where i created hold file.
my requirement is that i need to create that hold file into a master file,so that for any further creation of procedures i can directly use this master file instead of doing all the joins,defines,computes.

In the procedure where you create the hold file, you can code an APP HOLD directory_name where directory_name is a folder in your ibi\apps structure. This will save the file AND the master into that directory.

You can now do one of two things. You can put and APP FI (FILEDEF) statement in each of the programs that wants to use that file OR you can update the hold master with a DATASET parameter and change the APP HOLD in the creation program to an APP HOLDDATA so as not to wipe out the change you just made.

I've typed in a lot of keywords here that you can use to do other searches in the Forum. This is a fairly basic activity to learn.

I totally agree with Ginny. There are two pages of posts regarding this subject, permanent hold files, that contain a vast amount of valuable information.

You could also store the hold file into a RDBMS and retrieve it in the second session.
Using SQL-Pass-Through removes the need for the masterfile, though you might need some care for the datatypes.

Just an idea.
