Using FST Operator

I have a data file that I have sorted by AcctNumber Descending TransxDate and TransxAmount such that the data is:
AcctNumber TransxDate TransxAmount
123 9/16 200
123 9/10 100
345 9/5 75
345 9/5 25
Now, I want to extract the first occurrence of each AcctNumber after I have sorted it. How do I use FST operator such that my results are:
AcctNumber TransxDate TransxAmount
123 9/16 200
345 9/5 75

Any suggestions? I'm not sure why the fst operator is not working.

According to the manual;

TABLE FILE whatever
SUM FST.TransxDate FST.TransxAmount
BY AcctNumber
END

Assuming that the file 'whatever' is physically arranged as you show it. Roll Eyes

Perhaps it would be easier for you if you sorted

BY AcctNumber
BY HIGHEST 1 TransxDate

this will give you only one value per AcctNumber, that with the highest value of TransxDate, which I think from what you're saying is what you're after.
