Hi,

I have a field of Length 50, say client name. I have to divide this field into two different fields of length 30 each such that there is no truncation in the data words of the field as mentioned below:

Old value:
aaaaaaaaaa bbbb aaaaaaaaaa eeeeeeeeee cccccc
bbbbbbbb eeeeeeee dddddd eeeee ffffff
dddddddddddd vvvv eeeeeeeeeeeee bbbbbbb
wwwwwww rrrrrrr wwwwww eee ffffffff eeeeeeeee
qqqq zzzzzz eeeeee tttttt rrrrrrrrrr

Transformed values:

Search for Character Functions (in Dev Studio Help Index, or in your manual's index). There's a couple of functions there that, in combination, will isolate the first and second portions of your data.

I have used the PARAG and GETTOK functions for the requirement as below:

  
DEFINE FILE filename
CLIENT_NAME/A50 = PARAG(50, CLIENTNAME, '¬', 30, CLIENT_NAME);
AN1/A30      = GETTOK(CLIENT_NAME, 50, 1, '¬', 30, AN1);
AN2/A30      = GETTOK(CLIENT_NAME, 50, 2, '¬', 30, AN2);
END

TABLE FILE filename
PRINT AN1
      AN2
BY CLINETNO
ON TABLE HOLD AS OUTFILE FORMAT ALPHA
