Power Painter
Any one know anything about Power Painter? IBI is giving a demo for my area in May. I write my own code as I don't like Developer Studio. How is Power Painter any different from Developer Studio?

Thanks,
Glenda

Glenda,

Power Painter is the replacement for report assist and will be used wherever report assist was used.

It looks like a combination of the html painter and report painter.

Actually, Power Painter is a PDF authoring tool using a thin-client (web browser, AJAX) mechanism.

We at the university were also confused as to the target development audience for Power Painter (mistakenly thought it would be a replacement for Rpt Asst and marketed as a scaled-down Dev Studio for power users), but IBI set us straight on an on-site demo. It is strictly targeted for advanced PDF authors who need something strong, but not as heavy as PDF layout painter in Dev Studio.

Sure would be nice to have it replace Report Assistant and Dev Studio, though. Then it would run on our Intel Macs.

We saw a demo of the power painter recently.
It's just a fancier version of report assist, it has some more functionality and is similar to developer studio.

The only place it seems reasonable is in an environment where you have a handful of power users who develop reports in report assistant.

It also looks a whole lot better than the report assistant, and a lot more professional and capable.

Hi all,

Power Painter is our thin client tool to author coordinated reports that contain both Reports and Graphs in one document, and can be compared to the PDF Layout tool in Developer Studio. The UI in PowerPainter is a new interface that possesses all the functionality of the Report and Graph Assistant tools, and a subset of the functionality of Developer Studio's PDF Layout Tool.
It is an additional tool that can be launched from the same areas the report assist and graph assist can be called.

Since we have over 12 Reporting Assistant Objects in 7.1 and when we migrated to 7.6, the default launch is Power Painter. The illustration of these (we have them all set to HTML) is horrible. I understand IBI is phasing this out, but we need to execute Reporting Assistant (by default) until we can re-create and layout the objects using PowerPainter. Is there any way we can make this happen?
