Anyone have an idea on how to convert a field from an A10V to an A6 format? I'm trying to join two files on a field called supplier code but in both files they have the different functions. I've tried using EDIT but it doesn't seem to work. Thank you in advanceThis message has been edited. Last edited by: <Kathryn Henning>,

Why doesn't edit work? Where are you making this change? Does this A10V field actually utilize 10 characters? If it never utilizes 10 characters and you have access to the metadata, you could change the ACTUAL/USAGE values in the metadata from A10V to A6. No conversions required. Basically, if the field comes back with more then 10 characters, I believe it would just cut off at the 6th character.
Can you provide how you wrote your edit statement? I would have written it like this
NEW_FIELD/A6=EDIT(OLD_FIELD_10V, '999999');
If you're just writting it as
NEW_FIELD/A6=EDIT(OLD_FIELD_10V');
then WebFOCUS is trying to fit 10 characters into a 6 character field. It will throw an error.
