I have a number of Focus files in my APP folder that I am trying to join together in a single master file. Each file is generated nightly by ReportCaster running a fex with APP HOLD in it. The master file for each looks something like this:
FILENAME=DEPARTMENT_EXTRACT, SUFFIX=FOC     , $
  SEGMENT=SEG01, SEGTYPE=S1, $
    FIELDNAME=DEPARTMENT, ALIAS=E01, USAGE=A50, FIELDTYPE=I,
      MISSING=ON,
      TITLE='DEPARTMENT', $
    FIELDNAME=DEPARTMENT_DESC, ALIAS=E02, USAGE=A2000,
      MISSING=ON,
      TITLE='DEPARTMENT_DESC', $

For every single file, the segment is named "SEG01." Is there a way to specify what I want the segment name to be rather than letting WebFOCUS automagically supply a default name?

Here's the code that generates the master file described above:
TABLE FILE VALIDATION
SUM VALUE_DESC AS DEPARTMENT_DESC
BY VALUE AS DEPARTMENT
WHERE TABLE_NAME EQ 'STVDEPT'
ON TABLE HOLD AS DEPARTMENT_EXTRACT FORMAT FOCUS INDEX VALUE
END
-RUN

Any suggestions for changing it so that my master file contains SEGMENT=DEPT, rather than SEGMENT=SEG01?

Hi Steven,

I believe that yes we are able to change.

In Master File Just update it to SEGMENT=DEPT and if you have folder structure in Master file then you have to UPDATE it as well to BELONGS_TO_SEGMENT=DEPT otherwise you can skip this.
In Access file you have to update it to SEGNAME=DEPT.

Update SEGMENT=DEPT in .mas(Master file)
Update SEGNAME=DEPT in .acx(Access file).

Hi,
Try the following code:
having "ON TABLE SET EXTRACT ON" will add segment names to your master file.

APP HOLD [YOUR FOLDER NAME]
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
CAR
MODEL
SALES
BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE SET EXTRACT ON
ON TABLE HOLD AS CHECK_SEG FORMAT FOCUS
END
