When i try to plot graph between two dates, i get the following error (FOC031) THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF 'ACROSS' VALUES HAS BEEN EXCEEDED
(FOC305) SPECIFIED LABEL NOT FOUND: FOC_ERR.

Can i capture or filter this error and type a user friendly message

You could look at it from a different angle and restrict the date range of your input.

If that's not an option then do a pre-select of your data with the same BY, ACROSS and predicates, but just SAVE the output to get the number of lines of output. Then check the number of output lines against the maximum and output a message. If the number of output lines is OK then bypass the error message and output your graph.

I do something like this, to force all dates to only one date per week, and then graph on that:
 
SAMPLE_SD/YYMD=SAMPLE_DT;
SAMPLE_EOW/YYMD=DATEMOV(SAMPLE_SD,'BOW');
XAXIS/I8YYMD=DATECVT(SAMPLE_EOW,'YYMD','I8YYMD');
