I have created a launch page in resource layout painter where the user can enter parameters and execute a report. I would like to use the Calendar control type for a required date parameter, but keep getting errors. Is there something I need to include in order to be able to use the calendar controls in Resource Layout Painter?

No, for the most part when you have a variable you can just change the control type to calendar. Are you getting the error when you run the report or in Res. layout. Have you opened a case with NY.
