I never liked the way the tabs were generated in B.I. dashboard and am very disappointed that nothing has changed between v5.3 and v7.6.

There are so many great examples of DHTML tabs on the web and we're stuck with something that was designed in 2004 (or whenever 5.3 was released).

I can't believe that the quite silly transparent images with a black outline of a tab are still being used.

If the tabs do not fit across the screen, the user still has to scroll the tab area to access the rest of the tabs. This is a holdover from the past as well. There should be an option that automatically resizes the tab area so you don't have to scroll.

And the ridiculous thing about the images that the tabs are generated with is that two of the files are located in the View folders:

C:\ibi\WebFOCUS76\worp\worp_custom\aa_gbv\

tab1.gif
tab_separatorright.gif

and the other files are located in an ibi_html sub-folder:

/ibi_html/javaassist/images/worp/

tab_selectleft.gif
tab_selecttop.gif
tab_selectright.gif
tab_selectseparatorleft.gif
tab_unselectleft.gif
tab_unselecttop.gif
tab_unselectright.gif

And that some portions of the tab area are controlled by CSS classes that place images:

CLASS="tab_separatorright"
CLASS="tab_unselectbottom"

Quite disappointed that changing the height property in class "tabsDiv" of content.css makes no difference to the height of the tab area of the view.

not sure if this is still the case, but in 7.6.0 to get the multiple rows to show correctly I had to change

.tabsDiv {
height : 30 ;
overflow : auto ;
}

to

.tabsDiv {
height : 30 ;
overflow : visible ;
}

I would like the height of the tabs div to be high enough to display two rows of tabs, changing the height value to something larger than 30 makes no difference.

I've discovered "square tabs".
New Features

They don't behave exactly like I thought they would, but I may have to tweak more than what is described in the documentation.

I would love to know if the CSS styling used by Dashboard is actually documented anywhere.

Background colours for selected and unselected tabs are defined in content.css. The selected tab seems to have upper and lower borders, and when unselected, these borders stay.

Sorry for not being more clear, but it is the overflow setting that was important to get both rows of tabs visible. Change that from "overflow : auto ;" to "overflow : visible ;" and you should see all the tabs. for some reason the height value doesn't seem to do anything - as you have already stated.

Sorry this took me a few days to get back to you. I checked with our Dashboard person and here is the suggestion: currently, there is an option to change the tab style from round to square in Viewbuilder, edit settings portion.

You are requesting about 2-3 more NFR’s:
* black outline issue
* a re-size of the tabs so that scrolling is not needed
* the implementation of dhtml tabs, here is an example of dhtml tabs:

That was a great help. It works as you describe in v7.6.5. With square tabs, overflow set to visible and setting a css width for the tabs, the tabs look pretty good to me.

I think I'll live what already exists. Thank you for looking into this for me.

(The tabs with the incomplete colour seems to have been a temporary issue - I'm not getting them any more.)
