Hi

I am creating a text file via a Unix shell command from inside a fex. The script runs fine and the file is created.

However, how can I read the text file that was created as a datasource in webfocus? I need a UNIX equivalent of SQLOUT after SQL passthrough.

Is there an easy way to do this? Or do I need to create a master file inside my unix script?

Or can I create the master inside the fex?

Can I use -READ and get the results into a hold file? Without looping through each line and appending rows one by one?

Create a generic master that has one large text field. I call mine LINE80. Filedef LINE80 to your new file and you can do a table request against it and create a hold file.

P.S. I also have one for 100, 200, 300.

If you want, you can also create a master inside your fex. Here's an example of how we do it:

Leave out the "more" command once you are sure your code is correct. We use it to double check the master.

Just as a follow up, I am using Ginny's suggestion to make a generic master file and then change the filedef as needed to use the generated file.
