I am new to WebFOCUS Developer Studio. I have a report that creates a hold file with students in Native American Tribes and then uses the hold file in a join with Student_sports. Then the report uses the join. In a class I was in I remember the instructor saying that hold files are not a good idea because if someone else runs the same report, the hold file will be overwritten with the new file before the first report run is done using the hold file. Did I understand this correctly? If this is correct, what is a better way to handle this situation and create a more static hold file that lasts as long as the report that created it is running.

Normally HOLD files are temporary and are unique to the user's session (i.e., there is no crosswalk between one user's session and another user's session). But if a FILEDEF or an APP HOLD is used to save the HOLD file to a permanent location, then problems could occur if multiple users are running the program at the exact same time.
