Can someone quickly explain the difference between &lines and &records and where to use what?

It looks like &records is how many records you retrieved from the database, and &lines is how many lines ended up in your report. I could be wrong, so I hope someone else will post a more authoritative answer.

You are right.

&RECORDS is rows retrieved.

And &LINES is after aggregation and filtering.
