Not sure if 7.6 has the equivalent, but in 7.7.0n there are two files contained within the ibi_html\javaassist\ibi\html\describe folder of the server install (WF client obviously) that would appear to be interchangeable. These are "autoprompt.xsl" and "autoprompt_checked.xsl".
Autoprompt.xsl is used in the building of the autoprompting screen and could be replaced with the _checked version.
HOWEVER, I would stringly advise you to confirm with tech support that this is acceptable practice and that this is the reason for both of these files being present.
It could be that there is a client setting that would allow the automatic switching of these files without renaming / copying.
As always, you make these changes of your own volition and risk.

There is this parameter, that I think could be put in a profile. Maybe one of the gurus would know exactly which one would work. We have put this in a fex. It puts a checkmark in the 'Run in new window' box.
Hi SWES, You can change on the adminstration page of the webfocus server the configuration for the client settings: Set the parameter IBIF_describe_xsl to "autoprompt_top_checked". I'm sure this will work! Good luck.

Tony, by any chance... do you know where to find this in v8? Can't believe they hid it somewhere else... missing the default value checked to open in a new window a-lot!

I thought that I would have a quick check and If you go to Admin Console / Application Settings / Parameter Prompting and open "Default Autoprompt Template", there is an option for "HTML_Top_Checked".
Not tried it out myself but might be worth your while?
