Hey all,

Does anyone know of a way to keep column titles in view if you are scrolling through more records than the current page can display in a report? Like if the lines-per-page is set to unlimited? If there is a way, does it still work with Active Reports as well?

Thanks in advance!

It's different for regular HTML reports and Active Reports.

For regular HTML reports use HFREEZE. See Creating Reports With WebFOCUS Language > Using Headings, Footings, Titles, and Labels > Creating Headings and Footings > Freezing HTML Headings, Footings, and Column Titles.

For Active reports, use LINES-PER-PAGE. See the Active Technologies User's guide > Determining the Number of Rows Per Page and Styling Characteristics.

Francis,

Thank you for the information! After playing around with both scenarios/implementations (HTML and AHTML), I've come to the conclusion that the AHTML implementation is way better than the regular HTML one due to when using HFREEZE and SCROLLHEIGHT along with ON TABLE SET AUTOFIT ON it doesn't play nice together. I end up with scrollbars that have to be pushed completely to the right before the user can see and utilize the scroll bar for the actual report, as well as other displacement issues. With the AHTML implementation, the AUTOFIT works fine and I can set it up at least in such a manner that the user will always see the column titles and header while sifting through records. I hope they work on and make better HFREEZE while it is being used in conjunction with AUTOFIT.

Thanks again!

As soon as we upgraded to 8.0.x, I started using HTML5 graphs and loved how 'ON GRAPH SET AUTOFIT ON' caused the graph to resize automatically.

I see you are on 8.1.04. From your share, it sounds like that in 8.1.x Active Reports can be responsive too.

Do I have that correct? If so, could you share just a note or two, on what happens/how it looks as the container size changes? Things get closer/squished lines fold (just guessing :-))...

David,

Active Reports are responsive in that the report will fit the window/panel it loads in (to an extent). After load, the report does not dynamically resize as you adjust the window it is in unfortunately. No data columns fold either. If there are a lot of columns of data to display then there will be a scrollbar for that. The column widths only adjust so small before they won't squish any smaller, thus scrollbars. The responsive behavior is not as dynamic or advanced as what you get with normal HTML reports sadly, but if you only have a small number of columns, their widths do adjust to fit the container width the report loads in initially. Hopefully IBI will advance Active Report responsive behavior soon. In comparing its paging and frozen header functionality to that of HFREEZE with HTML reports, I like the overall end result better than the HFREEZE solution.

Sorry to burst your bubble on this one. Again, hopefully IBI continues to make their products and features more responsive over time (existing and new alike).
