[SOLVED] Excel BYTOC Tab names
Hi,
In the following code, I want the tab names to be exactly as defined, but they keep getting renamed or shortened to Additional Data Processing(1),etc. It is a compound report and is there a way to not have exccel change the names. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

DEFINE FILE CAR
MODEL1/A100 = IF BODYTYPE EQ 'CONVERTIBLE' THEN 'Additional Data Processing (A)'
                 ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'COUPE' THEN 'Additional Data Processing (B)'
				  ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'HARDTOP' THEN 'Additional Data Processing (C)'
				 ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'ROADSTER' THEN 'Additional Data Processing (D)'
				 ELSE  'Additional Data Processing (E)' ;
END

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT *
BY MODEL1
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT XLSX BYTOC OPEN
END

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT *
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT XLSX CLOSE
END

'Additional Data Processing (C)'

25 characters max for Tab name, Microsoft limitation, not WF...

and if you take out the second car report , it will give full name on the tabs, which is really driving me crazy.

I have a feeling the values are not unique enough to the left of the ( and it's renaming them. I tried this instead and it works. Not sure if that's an acceptable solution but it sorta explains what's happening.

DEFINE FILE CAR
MODEL1/A100 = IF BODYTYPE EQ 'CONVERTIBLE' THEN '(A) Additional Data Processing'
                 ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'COUPE' THEN '(B) Additional Data Processing'
				  ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'HARDTOP' THEN '(C) Additional Data Processing'
				 ELSE IF BODYTYPE EQ 'ROADSTER' THEN '(D) Additional Data Processing'
				 ELSE  '(E) Additional Data Processing' ;
END

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT *
BY MODEL1
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT XLSX BYTOC OPEN
END

No, I do not have flexibility with the names. So back to the original question. It is really not a question of length, it truncates it for no reason.

Perhaps you should call IB tech support and see if they have a solution here.

I figured out a way to do this. I have replaced BYTOC with GO TO looping and creating each tab. Thanks for the sugestions
