I'm trying to join (one to many) a held file to an extremely large master file on the server. Its taking forever and I want to try and speed it up. I thought about indexing values on a held file made from the master table, but the master is so large, that pulling the amount of data I need from it takes forever. Does anybody have any ideas for me? I have resolved to just type a where statement on the master file for the values I need.
Prarie has the right idea. We had the same problem here and we created a smaller set of data that spanned a rolling 18 months containing the fields we use on a regular basis. We use this file to run a multitude of reports. Reports that were taking hours now take minutes.
Sorry for not getting back on this on earlier. I did some research on documents and came to the understanding that a case may be the appropriate way to help the issue. We will need to know very detailed information about your system as well as the database to further understand the problem.
To open a case with Information Builders' Customer Support Services, you may either call at 1-800-736-6130, or access the online system InfoResponse at any time. Here is a list of information to be ready when you call: http://techsupport.ibi.com/before_you_call.jsp.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kerry
