The statement, COMPUTE YEARMONTH/YYM=YEAR|'/'|MONTH, tells WebFOCUS that the variable is a so-called Smart date. It would appear that you want a character string like the following: YEARMONTH/A7 = YEAR | '/' | MONTH; Note the difference in format.
